Secrets of the OR

I was put under what they call "twilight anesthesia" for both of my surgeries.

I was really, really out of it and am 100% positive I slept the majority of the time.

However I remember a few things.

My urologist likes to listen to really loud music while operating.

Everyone carried on conversations just like any other job, weekend plans, funny kid stories, etc...

It was amusing listening to them, heck I might have even joined in on the conversation but exact details are fuzzy. If I did join in lets hope I didn't say anything too crazy.

And the OR is freezing, as in it could double as a meat locker.

I have been fully put under with the breathing tube and whole kit and caboodle and let me tell you this twilight anesthesia is great if the type of surgery you are having allows for it.

The effects wear off quickly and you go home feeling normal, not drugged and not sick feeling.

I felt great within about 10 minutes of being in recovery both times. I even managed to con my nurse into having a volunteer wheel me down to labor & delivery to visit my friend that had a baby the day before.

I Need a Cupcake and a Bottle of Vodka

We have had a pretty busy week.

Mama is exhausted.

Today Davis was and still is being a shit.

Yes, I said it, my 3 year old is a shit.

I remember thinking 2 was bad.

3 is a whole new ball game.

Now he can really talk, so he basically tells me where to stick it when I yell at him for things.

He thinks he can do everything himself.

Like carry an entire gallon of milk and pour into a cup.

I swear if I hear "I can do it all by myself" one more time, I'm gonna kick Little Bill in the ass. (Little Bill is a TV show and he says that all.the.time)

He throws everything he owns.

He can't just nicely find a toy, no, that is too easy, he has to throw all the other toys across the room in order to get the one he wants.

He doesn't want to wear diapers, yet doesn't want to use the potty.

He also thinks he should drive the car, not me.

I picked ramen noodles out of our shag style carpeting for over 20 minutes today.

If he is done with whatever he is eating he just throws it at the dog.

He won't wear clothes and if he does, they don't match.

His latest trick is jumping off the couch onto the floor because that isn't dangerous at all.

Did I mention I had surgery last week and am supposed to be taking it easy?

So much for that.

I just want to sit on my butt with a cupcake and a vodka tonic.

Playing Catch Up

I feel like my blog has become rather, boring.

I promise I'm going to spice it up a bit, I just need to get through these surgeries.

Right now I'm just going to play catch up on some things.

I had my semi-permanent Interstim implant last week, so far so good.  I'm always the 1% so it took nearly a week to see changes.  I don't want to jinx myself so I'm not going to say what they are yet, I promise you it is exciting though.  For right now you can see the sweet battery pack that I get to tote around, mostly I hang it from the middle of my bra, it is the most toddler friendly place to keep it and it hides well there.  Showering is a joke and a half.  I can't get my back wet, but they said I could shower, sure, that is easier said than done.  I manage, it takes twice as long as it should and I really can't wait until I get this permanently implanted so I can take a real shower.

We have been having some stellar weather here and have been enjoying the great outdoors.  As you can see from these pictures Davis has quite the collection of backyard toys and enjoys his ice cream.  He also recently got a new swingset, it isn't 100% done yet so I'll post the pictures when it is done.  4-8 hours my ass!!!!

Only as a toddler is it alright to go pantsless for a while.

I enjoyed my monthly mom's night last week with my amazing friends. I love those girls!!!!  This is what I wore:

Top: Adiva from TJ Maxx
Jeans: Silver Brand
Shoes: Jessica Simpson from TJ Maxx, you can't tell in the picture but they are a really unique blue and make me appear to be 6' tall, love it!!!!
Purse: Scarlett Blake, super old, handed down from my fashionista sister
Bracelets: Amrita Singh

Nothing screams IT'S SUMMER like a messy ice cream bar out on the deck.

And Another Use for Baby Wipes

I showered with baby wipes today.

If you are my friend and I stink, now you know why.

I had my Interstim trial done in the OR yesterday since I'm a freak of nature and 2 electronic leads couldn't stay in my body temporarily for even 24 hours.

I'm to "test" the Interstim for 2 weeks now and the orders are, no showering.

Hmmmmm.....

So today I showered with baby wipes.

Tomorrow I'm gonna get creative because dammit I'm taking a shower.

I'm not turning into my stinky grandmother.

Interstim Stage 1 Failure Update

Leave it to me to be the odd bird.

Both my right and left wires came out.

I knew something was amiss around 4 p.m. yesterday.

We were testing the left side and all of a sudden I was feeling the stimulation up high on my butt cheek.

This is not where you are supposed to feel it.

However, I went about my day and knowing the rep was calling me today at 9 a.m. I figured we'd sort it out.

Since that left wire obviously moved he had me switch to the right wire.

I turned my device all the way up to 10 and felt nothing.

He said well, that wired moved too.

I started crying.

He called my doctor, the doctor called me, I had to go in and get everything pulled out.

The nurse said, yep, the right wire is totally out and the left is halfway out.

Only me.

The good news is, I did get relief yesterday for a little while.

I woke up at 7:30 a.m. and didn't have to pee at all.

Huge!

I did pee around 8 a.m., drank 3 cups of coffee and didn't pee again until 10:45 a.m.

WOW!

Usually I pee every 30 - 60 minutes.

The next time I peed was at 1 p.m.

Then not again until 3:30 p.m.

It was around 4 p.m. that I noticed the problem.

Then I was back to every 30-60 minutes.

Now I will have a test wire surgically implanted and we will test this way for 2 weeks.

To say I am unhappy is an understatement.

Failure

Sitting here in tears.

It isn't working.

I have peed 17 times in not even 24 hours yet.

I don't even have words for how I feel.

I am so sad, disappointed, and hopeless.

What I've Been Reading

Follow Up to Second Thoughts

I'm not sure why I'm having second thoughts.

I honestly think it is just nerves.

I was up 8 times last night peeing.

I NEED to have this surgery.

Say a little prayer that I get over my nerves.

At least I get to take 20 mg of Valium before I get the first part of the surgery tomorrow.

That should be interesting.

Maybe I should have Jeff record everything I say on the way there.

Second Thoughts

I am scheduled for part 1 of my surgery this Wednesday and part 2 next Wednesday.

As much as I want my problem fixed I am not 100% sure about it.

In fact I am more like 80% thinking I shouldn't do it.

I feel this way because it was cancelled twice.

I feel like that is a sign.

I don't know what to do.

I am really feeling like I need more time.

Maybe I need to try one more thing to see if it helps.

Shit.

I need to make a decision.

Break Out The Booze

It has been one of those weeks.

I'm exhausted from it.

Davis had allergy tests Monday, all positive, including dogs.

We have a dog that we dearly love.

However, he is reacting terribly to her.

Just our luck.

Thursday we had a little playdate at our local cupcake shop.

Davis was having so much fun, then he fell really hard on the sidewalk outside of it.

Skinned both elbows and a knee.

His one elbow was bleeding pretty badly and he was all upset over it, of course I'm never prepared and had no first aid related items with me and the husband would have killed me if he bled all over the Benz.

What did I do?

I wrapped that kids elbow in a size 6 Pampers Baby Dry is what I did.

He wasn't very happy, but it also wasn't bleeding all over anymore either.

After that fiasco I was looking forward to a park playdate today with all of our friends.

Just as we were getting ready to leave I got a phone call I had to take, while I was on the phone the dog licked Davis causing a severe reaction.

It was terrible.

His entire face was red and had bumps all over it.

Both eyes swelled.

He was a disaster.

However, he still wanted to go to the park.

He had a fit when I told him he had to get a bath first.  I had to get the dog dander off of him.  He couldn't leave the house that way.

After a big fight, with tears, kicking and screaming, he got a bath.

Afterwards he proceeded to throw a fit for an hour, I gave him Benadryl and finally the rash and swelling went down.

He still wanted to go to the park, so we left, got some McD's on the way which was another fiasco.

They forgot our straws and his Happy Meal toy.

We arrived a the park at 12:45 p.m. and of course 5 minutes later it poured down rain.

He didn't want to leave, who can blame him really, but we had to.

I picked him up, kicking and screaming and got in the car.

At this point I look like I should be in a wet t-shirt contest.

He screamed in the car for a good 10 minutes before falling asleep.

Then I got a phone call from the allergist.

We also had a blood draw for food allergies.

We chose to test him for casein, wheat, dairy, soybean, melon, peanuts, egg white and whole egg.

The results, allergic to every single one except melon.

Shit.

I need vodka.

KOTEX

I was working on another blog post and got sidetracked by these Kotex ads I found.  I couldn't stop laughing, so naturally I have to let you all enjoy them too.

Wheeeee, sorry honey, I'm on my period so we can't have sex, but we can ride this horsey.

Hey everyone, I started my period so I decided to wear my lightest color dress and carry a flower with me. I also like the way my right hand is posed, it makes me feel so womanly.

I can't believe my little girl is growing up, let's celebrate your start of womanhood by going figure skating!

I don't get this ad, at all.  It makes no sense.  These women are obviously experiencing symptoms of PMS here.  One boot, one high heeled shoe, puppies, some sort of weird graduation ceremony and that hat???  And the girl in plaid is obviously under the influence.

Obviously these are two lesbians who are seducing that football player into having a threesome.

Are these the lesbians again?  I think so, but look, each of them have boyfriends now. I think I know what is going on here during this camping trip, swinging.

She is laughing because she got this guy to take her on a Sunday drive in his sports car, followed by a picnic in a desolate area of the park where he thinks he is going to get jiggy with it.  WRONG!! I'm on my period Johnny.

Getting Our Feet Wet

We are casually house hunting.

Our house isn't for sale, we are not super serious, but we know we will be soon so we are beginning to get our feet wet into the real estate market just to see what is out there.

We constantly look online at homes but it is very hard to tell from pictures what a house really looks like.

Those realtors sure know how to take photos so a house looks really awesome online.

Right now we are just going to hit the open houses every Sunday, we don't want to call a realtor because we truly would be wasting their time right now.

I attended 3 open houses on Sunday, all in the same neighborhood, a neighborhood we really like.

All 3 homes were in the same price range and as far as homes go, I feel like this price is a pretty high one, high enough that I expected better out of these homes.

I left those open houses feeling really disappointed.

The houses were first off not very clean, super cluttered and outdated feeling (homes were not even 10 years old) and even though they were 2800-3200 square feet they felt small and closed off.

I also got that feeling back that I had when we were looking for our current house.

The feeling of disgust.

I get that some people are not as clean or as organized as I am.

But for god's sake, get clean and get organized when you are selling your home.

You are not going to sell a home with a gigantic walk in closet if it is packed full of junk, crap all over the floor, boxes sitting around with underwear, piles of jewelry thrown on the dresser, cat hair clumped up on the stairs, dust all over the furniture, etc...

I don't get it.

There is a reason your home isn't selling!!!!

It is hard to get past the clutter and filth.

I have a feeling when we get serious it is going to be a very, very long road.  I also know that when we get to that point of being serious we need to look into the option of building too.

I came home and realized what a great home we have.  When we sell, someone is going to get a really great place to live.
