Sparkles

I had gold tinsel put in my hair last night.  It was ladies night at the Melting Pot so I met some other mommy friends of mine there, we all had tinsel put in our hair by the girls from the Toni & Guy hair academy.  It was a hoot.  And the tinsel isn't what you are thinking, it is actually fairly cool.  They just put a few subtle strands in.  I already ripped one out though, oops!

Over It

I am totally over the look of my blog.  It is too whimsical or something.  I need something sophisticated and simple.  Look for a re-design soon.

Enjoy my temporary look for a while until I come up with something.  I had to change it, if I looked at the black and white wallpaper one more time I was going to hurl.

Same Baby, Same Stroller, One Year Later

These pictures were taken almost exactly one year to the day apart.   In the first picture Davis is pushing 4 months old, we had just swapped the bassinet out for the seat on the stroller this day so I snapped a picture of him happily enjoying his new freedom.  I decided it would be fun to take the same picture a year later to see how much he has grown.  The pictures speak for themselves.

And just for fun, at 4 months Davis was 14 lbs., 1 oz. and 26.5" long.  At 16 months he is 22 lbs. 8 oz. and 33" long.  Yes, he lost weight since his 15 month appointment, doctor was not worried.  He had a little tummy virus for a few weeks so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Look at how he isn't even strapped into his stroller a year ago, I never used the straps until he got a little more frisky, around 6 months.  The reason he looks annoyed in the recent picture is because he probably didn't want to lay flat like a newborn and the sun was blazing in his eyes, but mommy said, tough, anything for the perfect shot!!  haha

Things That Make You Go Hmmmmmm

Lately I've observed quite a few moms that are still using infant carriers, which is fine, as long as your child is within the height and weight limits.  I swear some people just get a seat and do not pay attention to the limits of their particular seat.  I used a Graco Safeseat which has a higher height/weight limit that the regular Snugride, I see so many kids in regular Snugrides that I know are well outside the height/weight limits of the seats.  You almost feel sorry for them, legs hanging way over the side, their chubby little legs barely squeezing in the seat.  Not to mention it really is unsafe once your child passes the weight and/or height limit of the seat, usually they outgrow it in height before they ever will in weight.  This goes with any seat, infant, convertible, forward facing, etc....

What brought me to this post is a mom that came to my garage sale with her 9 month old, in his regular Snugride, he was HUGE!!!!  I know he was outside the limits of that seat and I am sure the mom had no idea, she probably got the seat and never paid attention to the very important height and weight limits of it.

I guess the moral of my story is to check the limits of your seat and make sure your still within them, you might be surprised.

And maybe I'm a freak about this stuff, but I just always want to ensure Davis is a safe as possible.

There is going to be another car seat post sometime this week, I did something I wasn't planning on doing for 2 more months.  I'm sure you will all be shocked at my latest revelation.

MIA

I know I have been MIA for a little while.  I've just been busy with Davis, getting ready for our garage sale, life, etc...

My new stroller did arrive last week, expect a full review and comparison between my new Maclaren Techno XLR and my much loved Bugaboo Frog.

I noticed Davis is getting his bottom eye teeth too, poor kid.  He has gotten all 4 molars over the summer, he is getting his 2 upper eye teeth and his 2 lower eye teeth.  This explains the sleep problems we have been having.

More later!!

Back to working on pricing stuff for my garage sale this weekend!!

Water Boy

Davis loves the water, he loves having the hose sprayed at him, he loves running throught the sprinkler, he loves his pool, his bath and his water table.  He really loves his baby swimming lessons too.  I have said before he is going to be the next Michael Phelps, minus the bong.

Here are a few pictures of my little water boy enjoying the water.

An Only Child

I am finally admitting Davis is going to be an only child.  This has not been an easy decision.  I will leave it at just that.

There is no question that bothers me more than the one you get asked after you get married, everone seems to think marriage automatically equals reproduction.  Newly marrieds and even marrieds who have been married a long time yet childless probably know what I'm talking about.  It seems like the second you say "I Do" everyone thinks it is their business to know when your having a baby.  I'm sure they mean no harm, but it is just one of those things that is like nails on a chalkboard to me.  When you finally do have that baby it seems like within minutes of him or her making their appearence to the outside world everyone is asking when baby #2 is arriving.  Hello, I haven't even changed my first diaper yet and your already asking me about baby #2.  Simmer down folk, simmer down.  My own mother even has this speech she always gives me about only children.  I love her more than anything and while it doesn't really hurt my feelings, it bugs me, I feel like people have a hard time accepting the fact we want one child.  I feel like I've made this decision with my husband only to have people say may ridiculous statements regarding only children.  Here are a few of the typical responses, only children are weird, only children are spoiled, only children are lonely and my favorite of all time, only children are retarded.  Yes, I actually had one unique person tell me that.  What an asshole.

I was so pleased to receive our copy of Time magazine in the mail yesterday, the cover story was this: "The Only Child: Debunking the Myths"

So right now Jeff and I are only planning on one child, it is what we can afford, it is what we can handle, it is what we want.  Will there be another baby in the future??  maybe, just maybe, but not anytime soon.

Saturday Fragments and Favorite Song Saturday

Davis was not feeling well so I missed Friday Fragments, never fear, today is Saturday Fragments and Favorite Song Saturday!! Woot Woot!!

-I love the show "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant".  First of all, how these women had no clue they were pregnant is beyond me, but I suppose it happens.  Secondly, whenever these women are interviewed for their story they always make statements like this about labor: "I thought I was dying", "I thought my insides were going to explode", "I was sure it was the end", etc...  When I think back to my own labor (pre-epidural labor), if I had no idea I was in labor, hell to the yeah I would have thought I was dying, for sure, no questions asked, I would have been convinced death was eminent.  I give props to women who do it with no drugs because it is painful, but I guess when your in that mindset you can get through anything.

- Maizy has been on a food strike, not sure why, she seems awfully sad these days and has been chewing on her legs again.  She chews her legs when she is nervous and upset.  I think it is Davis, he makes her very nervous, carrying around large toys, throwing them around at her, she can never just get settled anywhere without him coming in and disrupting her slumber.  Hopefully she perks up soon.  I feel bad for her.

- My stroller still hasn't shipped!!!! WTF Gilt Group!!!  Okay, Okay, my account says it will arrive between July 13 and July 22, but damn, it has been a long wait.

- Do they make a girl scout badge for giving birth without drugs?

- I don't know about you but I cannot wait until Monday nights episode of "Housewives of New Jersey"  It appears there will be a throw down between Teresa and Danielle and I am so looking forward to it.  I hope someone gets arrested, preferrebly Danielle.

- Being a geek at heart, I'm watching the X-Files starting with Season 1, again.  Thank you Netflix for streaming live through my Nintendo Wii.  Another geek move, I moved the Wii from the family room to the bedroom so I can enjoy my geeky programs from the comfort of my bed.  Jeff thinks I'm nuts.

- Two words: Lebron James

- Two more words: Who Cares

- Thirteen more words: He can work wherever he wants, you don't own him City of Cleveland

- Maybe Maizy needs a drink

- Maybe Maizy needs a Xanax

- The guy who lives 2 houses away never wears a shirt, now it would be different if he was young, hot and buff.  He is none of those things, he is old, has a beer gut and whiter than my sister.  Being whiter than my sister is hard to achieve, but this man has done it.  You would think his non-shirt wearing ass would be tan from all the non-wearing of shirts, but it is not.  I'm not even sure a tan would help.  Yeah, I thought about it, the tan wouldn't help, he'd still look gross.  Maybe I'll take a picture for next week.

Tidbits

-Davis got a wagon from his Grandma Sue for his 1st Birthday, I had honestly forgotten about it until Davis' friend Cayla showed up at the park riding in her new wagon.  We Jeff put it together Sunday for Davis.  Here are a few pictures of him enjoying it.

-Last Thursday we had a pool party in what Jen calls "The Barror Aqautic Wonderland"  We invited Jen and Stella over for some sun, pool time and lunch.  It was a great success.  Even Maizy behaved, sort of.  I realized after looking at these pictures that my child is like Andre the Giant, look at how tall he is!!!  Did I mention he grew 2 inches in 3 months again, he is now 33".  I was 33" at 18 months.  It will be interesting to see how his tallness plays out over the years.  He could be much taller than Jeff or I and then again he could stop growing so quickly and level off.  I am 5'4" and Jeff is 5'9", so I'm not expecting a very tall son, but we totally could have one. Almost all of the my male cousins on my mom's side of the family are well over 6' tall and so are the ones on my dad's side of the family.  My husband's entire family is short as can be, the women are all 5' tall and even though my husband really doesn't know his father (that is another story that I will not post due to privacy), we do know his father is shorter than my husband.  So shortness runs in their family, tallness runs in mine.

-I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in several months, I had been working out at home but it just wasn't cutting it.  I knew what had to be done, I had to suck it up and add kids club to my membership so I could take Davis with me.  It was great!!  I did a run/walk for 30 minutes and some lower body work, we were there about an hour.  The girls in the kids club said Davis cried once he realized I was gone, but assured me it was just a little whimper and after that he made some new friends.  When I went in to get him he cried because he did not want to leave, he was having fun.

-My mom and I went to Wal Mart last night. All I have to say is What Happens at Wal Mart stays at Wal Mart!!
-I am very serious about losing weight, before I had Davis I was very thin, when I met my husband I weighed a whopping 112 lbs., ha!!!  ha!! and ha!!  I know that I will NEVER be 112 lbs. again, but Davis is now 15 months old and I'm still carrying around an amount of baby weight that I do not like, I could have had this off by now and I don't.  I'm not lazy I just don't take enough time for myself to really focus on getting back in shape, I do eat healthy, but I've got a bad sweet tooth that really doesn't help at all.  I've decided to allow myself a small sugary treat each day, I know I cannot just cut it out completely.  I also plan on getting to the gym at least 3 times per week, I can for sure swing 3 times per week.  I'm taking baby steps.  I don't want to set unreasonable goals for myself that I know I cannot obtain.  I can manage to eat one small sugary treat a day, I can manage the gym 3 times per week and I know I can lose 10 lbs. by my 32nd birthday in 2 months.  Anything else I can do in addition to that is a bonus.
.
- I also hate the new way blogger re-designed their picture upload system.

Friday Fragments and Favorite Song Friday

I wish the new stroller I ordered would get here!!! I knew when I ordered it that it would be a month, but I was hoping it would still come sooner, I called today, they said between July 13 and July 20. Grrrrr.......

Davis is a crazy, crazy little man. He makes me laugh every day.

Davis spilled the entire bowl of the dog's water all over the kitchen floor, that was awesome.

Two words: Ghiradelli Brownies. Need I say more.

I went to McDonalds the other day because I was craving a Frappe like a meth addict craves, well, meth. Anyways, they were cleaning their machine, I then felt like a meth addict with no meth. I drove to my other "dealer" down the street, haha. Not really my other "dealer", just another McDonalds. It was heavenly.

I was at Wal-Mart a few days ago and witnessed a 2 year old in the backseat of a car with a seatbelt on, yep, no car seat. I also saw someone toss a dirty diaper into the parking lot. I rarely go to Wal Mart, but when I do I always wish I had my camera to take pictures of the Wal-Martians as I like to call them. I mean honestly, where in the hell do these people come from??? They certaintly cannot live in my city. I'm convinced they are bussed in from other towns.

I'm cheap so I shop at Aldi for some of the basics, when I was there this week I saw a really hot (not really) guy getting into his station wagon. He had a mullet that hadn't been washed since Ronald Reagan was president, but he thought he was the bees knees. Anyways, he totally took his shirt off in the parking lot because it was a really hot day. I considered asking him for his digits but figured he'd turn me down considering what a hot commodity he was. His car was hot too, an early 90's Ford Escort wagon in teal. Sweeeeeet!!!!
