We made it all day without diapers.
Never made it to the potty though.
He peed twice on the carpet.
Decided to let him run naked in the backyard.
He pissed on the house.
Shit in the yard.
I told him he wasn't a dog.
I got barked at.
Tomorrow is a new day.

Snapping Point
Everyone has one.
I reached mine today.
Here is why:
It is super hot, like 100 degrees.
Davis has decided to not sleep well all week, therefore I haven't slept.
We have had to be somewhere every day this week by 9 am.
I am having a garage sale tomorrow and it will be 100 degrees again.
My kid has kicked me (on accident) twice this week in my incision.
My husband is literally a helpless, 1 day old kitten. He cannot do anything himself.
I had to play with Play Doh twice this week.
Did I mention it was 100 degrees???

Playing Catch Up
Summertime just sucks all of my time away and I keep forgetting to blog. I have all of these grand ideas in my head and then I get distracted by other things.
Here is just a little bit of what has been going on lately.
Davis and I went strawberry picking a few weeks ago, the fresh strawberries were delicious and this was such a fun adventure for us. Davis just wandered around talking to anyone who would listen to him (chatty Cathy) and would pick the occassional strawberry to eat while he chatted up his new friends. We I ended up picking 8 quarts of strawberries!!! I didn't know what to do with all of them, so I cleaned them, hulled them and froze them right away since strawberries tend to go bad quickly. I made freezer jam with 4 qts and oh boy, talk about trouble. It has been 2 weeks since I made it and I'm on my 3rd jar. Did I mention nobody else eats the jam but me? and I may or may not just eat it straight from the jar with a spoon...I'll never tell :o)
I attended my very good friend Jen's baby "sprinkle". Her adorable babysitter wanted to host something special for her, even though this is her 2nd baby, so she threw her a "sprinkle". I made some super yummy sangria and took it to the party, not to toot my own horn or anything but it was pretty darn good. It was very easy too, 1 bottle of sweet white wine (like moscato) and 36 oz. of Fresca, throw in some fresh fruit for added prettiness if you like. I doubled the recipe, so I used 2 bottles of wine and a 2 liter of Fresca and I used frozen fruit I bought at the grocery store because I figured frozen would keep the sangria cooler. I snapped this picture of Jen with the gift I gave her. Cupcake onesies!! I ran across this idea on Pinterest and started making them for all of my friends when they have babies. It is super easy and super cute. Hers are 4 onesies and rolled up inside are a few pairs of baby socks and a few washcloths. There are several variations on making them, some use receiving blankets instead of onesies, but I prefer the onesies and washcloths or onesies and baby socks.

My husband's grandmother's 80th birthday "bash" was over the weekend. We were told to be there by 12:30 p.m., that was wrong (eyeroll, my friends will totally get why I am rolling my eyes at this). Anyways, Jeff was not happy at the person who gave us the wrong time, thankfully we were very close to a place I'd been wanting to visit, the Butterfly House. So we got back in the car and drove a little ways over there. It was okay, but not a place I'd specifically drive all the way out to visit (it is about 30 minutes from where we live). It was a good way to kill time though since the party didn't start till 2:30 p.m. (another eyeroll). Davis always finds someone to latch on to no matter where we go, he found a little girl and decided that he was part of her family. Yes people, I have THAT kid. The one that follows people around, chatting them up, acting like he belongs to them, trying to inform them of everything he knows, finally Jeff had to pick him up and remove him from his new found family, haha.
This is for Steffany, I used AV mode just for you :o) |
He is thinking. |
He discovered the butterfly guide and was insistent we find this particular yellow butterfly, we never did find it. |
Davis' new family, he followed them around acting as their tour guide for about 5 minutes, I'm pretty sure they just wanted to be left alone. I think it is cute though. |
Walking to the car with daddy, so sweet. |
Davis and Mommy. |
Davis had his 3 year photo shoot a few weeks ago, I've been dying for a sneak peek. Our photographer finally put some on her blog today. LOVE!!! Check them out here. If you are local, JEM Photography is amazing!! I've been a loyal customer since 2006.
Davis started his week long summer camp today. The theme is camping and he loved it!! And mommy loved the whole 2.5 hours she had to her lonesome. I went to the grocery store, got one of my couch to 5K runs in, took a shower and watched the episode of Army Wives from last night.
Until next time.

Worn Thin
My patience that is.
The 3 year old attitude has definately taken it's toll on me.
Every single day feels like an unneccesary battle.
It is a fight to get dressed.
It is a fight to eat meals.
It is a fight to go outside and play.
Everything is a fight.
I was reading a book yesterday that I have, particularly the section on potty training and Davis meets all of the criteria of being ready except one.
Here is the exact quote from that book:
"He is not embroiled in negativism. If his favorite word is still NO and you're still neck deep in a daily struggle with him over who's in charge, this is not the best time to start a venture that requires as much cooperation as using the toilet."
Now I know why so many moms from the group I belong to that have boys didn't get theirs trained until 3-1/2 years old.
My kid is going to have to be a pre-school drop out before he even starts at the rate we are going....

Pure Madness
I always feel like weekends are complete madness.
I am not sure why.
During the week things are pretty calm around here.
You throw my husband into the mix come Saturday and it is like having another 3 year old around here.
I am not only picking up after an actual 3 year old I am also picking up after an adult 3 year old.
Something has gotta change.

My Name IS Davis
People constantly call Davis, David.
Easy mix up.
I never correct them because I feel weird doing that, silly, I know.
But Davis, he does.
He says, no, my name is Davis with all sorts of attitude behind it.
It cracks me up.
Much less condescending coming out of a 3 year olds mouth than a 33 year olds.

No More Excuses
I have lost a lot of weight this past year.
My surgeries are done.
I want my pre-baby body back.
Or at least as close as I can get to it.
I am very motivated and hope I can stay that way.
Who knows, I might just rock a bikini again.

Sssssh, Quiet
I can remember how worried we were when Davis didn't talk by a year, then 15 mos., then 18 mos., then 2 years.
Doctor visits, therapy and even an autism diagnosis.
Then the snoring started again.
We took him back to the ENT.
He was shocked at the size of our 2 year olds tonsils.
Last June he had them removed.
3 weeks later he started talking and hasn't stopped since.
And he never was autistic, take that behavioral pediatrician that smugly said "I suppose the ENT wants to take all the credit for his talking" at a follow up appointment we took Davis to where he informed us Davis was indeed not autistic.
It makes me wonder how many other kids are mistakingly diagnosed with autism.
Not that I don't believe autism exists, it does.
But it angers me that because a doctor can't figure out why a kid won't talk they just slap an autism diagnosis on it.
I believe 100% the reason Davis didn't talk was purely from having large tonsils. To me it is no coincidence to go from zero words to 5 word sentences within 3 weeks of having them out.
Sorry for my ramble.
I was just sitting here thinking, wow, a year ago this kid said no words and now I can't get a word in edgewise, he never shuts up. Ever.

Unhappy People
Everyone knows one.
Someone that is just so unhappy with themselves that they are almost toxic.
Just because I am happy doesn't mean you need to make me feel bad.
Get some therapy.

Gift for a New Mom
My good friend just had a baby, for months she had been drooling over everyone's cocktails at our monthly dinners.
I took her dinner for tonight, a gift for the new bundle of joy and a gift just for mommy.
I mixed up my famous Lemon Drop Martini (enough for her to enjoy 2), poured it into a small Ball canning jar, I filled another small Ball canning jar halfway with sugar to put on the rim of the martini glass and included a martini glass. I put everything in a cute white box meant for cupcakes and of course included the recipe.
Voila! Perfect gift for a new mom who needs a drink or two.

Here is the recipe:
1-1/2 ounces Absolute Citron
1/2 ounce of orange liquer (I use Grand Marnier, but you can use triple sec)
3/4 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp. sugar
Combine all ingredients into a martini shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake hard, about 30-40 shakes will do. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with sugar. I find the sugar sticks best if you dip your finger in some leftover lemon juice and run it around the edge of the glass before spinning the glass around in the sugar. The sugar rim is a must for this drink!!!! Enjoy!!
