I have blogged recently about Davis constantly testing me and my authority.
It is an every day battle with him.
He wants to do what he wants to do and I do everything I can to correct him.
Two days ago he smacked me, in the face, in public because he was mad at me.
I was embarrassed and apalled that he did that to me.
I didn't know what to do though, we were out in public.
I immediately told me that he is to NEVER do that again and left.
I believe in spanking, nothing harsh, just a smack on the leg.
But I feel like you can't do that in public.
What would you have done? What should I have done? What should I do if he does this again?

Do you do time out? If so, find an empty corner, throw him in it and tell him he's in time out. He'll scream, but he'll learn. Just stand sort-of nearby to keep an eye on him, but don't hover. I had to do that with Sophia so many times in stores when she was in tantrum phase (age 2). One time I threw her in ToysRUs' stock room and let her cry for nearly 20 minutes. Of course, people stare like their children never threw fits. Riiiiight. Stressful.
Luckily, it's just a phase though. Until he's 3 and starts a whole new phase of independence. Fun, fun. ;)
I think you did the right thing by telling him you don't hit and leaving immediately.
Charlie hit me in the face coming out of target a few weeks ago. I was already in the process of dragging him out to the car following a public tantrum, so I twisted him sideways and carried him out to the car under my arm. It wasn't pretty.
Time out, for sure.
